I have seen enough good stuff that is really pushing the bounds of what we think of as interaction and interface that I think AR also needs a separate and robust set of standards. Now.
Most of these are now examples, and are from Jason Haag, who summarized them in a rather good presentation at DevLearn 2013. Others are being added over time.
Standards
The chairman of the W3C Working Group on AR Standards has posted a presentation on standards for AR * http://www.slideshare.net/robman/web-standards-for-ar-workshop-at-ismar13

McDonald: Haptic and Auditory http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my4JtK3W5vE - Drawing from this example, I can see a good possibility of new hire orientation from their desk or around the office - in other words, create a personalized experience at their convenience and interest, which might dismiss the new-place anxiety because the element of curiosity is kept going (extending nuggeted instruction?).
Word Lens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2OfQdYrHRs very helpful for employees on a business trip to non-English speaking countries.
- A cool substitute to e-books/pdfs/reference materials - highly useful in engineering, manufacturing and as well imagining an inflight assistance for pilots
I have read through the paper and the taxonomy suggested seems to be focused on tourism, history, field sessions; which is quite understandable given the primary stance of AR to augment the world view with information. Nevertheless, I somehow feel that we should think (or imagine) beyond walking tours and architectural surveys? Not sure - am still imagining
